I have been doing a lot of remixing lately and thought it would be cool to have a page about it. Remixing has really changed a lot in the last few years and has become something really creative and interesting. It used to be a simple thing of making songs work on the radio or on the dance floor now its like totally re creating the song.
The first one I did last year was for a band called Midlake, they are a kind of post 70s rock band and I really like the singers voice. I took everything out and made the song entirely with my Moog. The impression I got of the song was very cold and frosty and snow like so I made all these little sequences all slightly out of time which played against each other… heres a clip >
The most recent one I did for Dntel, Jimmy did a remix for me and this was returning the favour. I chose this song because I really love Mias voice. I decided to keep it really simple, I cant do all that stuff that Jimmy does so well so I thought I would stick to what I do well …. heres a short clip >
I just finished two remixes, one for a new artist from London who we really love called Lettie and one for Juana Molina who is an artist I have loved for a few years now. For Lettie I thought I would do an upbeat poppy song and see if I could make it more poppy hahah I couldnt and all I did was jst utnr the whole thing upside down and make it very dark with lots of different and new rythmns which were inspired by one line in the song.
Juana’s was really difficult, I didnt realise when I listened to it that it was in 7/4 time which isnt very instinctive to me. They make it sound so comfortable but it really was a struggle. I would find myself in the evenings counting 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 while watching tv weird ! I think I got it in the end though and Juana likes it so thats cool
If you would like me to do a remix for you please email me and we will try and work it out >

If you would like to have a go at remixing and you have a copy of Garageband on your Mac, you can download the files for 4 of the songs from The Truth In Me.
I’ve always been into letting people see how I write and construct music. When I released an album a few years ago I included the MIDI files so that anyone who was interested could remix the songs and see how they were put together.
Now using Apple’s Garage Band anybody can put together loops and add beats and remix so I have made four of my songs into Garage Band projects. You can open them in GB and add beats or other parts, other instruments…
You can download the archived projects here and open them in Garage Band. Remix them and send them back to us. I’ll post the best ones on my site.
You will need a password and username to get in to the files but I should have told you otherwise you wouldn’t be here…

I recorded all of these loops and actually my entire record using a Moog Voyager. I have been a fan of Moog synthesizers my whole career and really Moog gave me this record. Bob Moog very sadly died last year but a foundation has been set up in his name to further electronic music. It would be very cool if on downloading these files you would donate a dollar…
