Songs From the Silver Box

30/6/8> Well the news just keeps coming doesn't it? I decided I would like to do some shows this Summer to celebrate being back in England and just because it's fun! I don't often do something just because it's fun and maybe it's time I started. So the first of these shows will be on July 31st at Synthetic which is an electronic night at The Cavendish Arms pub in Stockwell London. Its a really nice venue and the presenters are great people so it should be fun. I will be playing somgs from my last and my upcoming album and Erin will be singing 4 or 5 songs with me. I hope as many of you can come as possible, it would be nice to see you. 29/6/8>Im back in England and in London for the weekend. Everything is ready to go with my new album but I am just waiting for clearance from Lenkas record label Epic to use her on the song we did together. Its taking a while but looks like it will be OK The only problem is that I think it will delay the release by a month which is a pain but theres not anything you can do, the label need 4 months lead time to release a record. The artwork is finished I am just waiting for the go ahead from Epic so I can finalise the credits. The master is finished as well even though we had quite a few problems. So before I came back we did three more shows with Erin in Toronto for NXNE a Canadian music festival. I was really shocked at the poor quality of the majority of bands I saw. There absolutely nothing that was even remotely entertaining and a lot of it was just plain rubbish. A couple of weeks before NXNE Erin and I went to see Efterklang, a Danish band that just totally blew us away. It was inspirational sadly there are so few bands around like this. Erin was of course amazing, I cant help but feel these arent the right forums for Erins music and I particularly disagree with the way bands are treated at these "Festivals". Personally I think they are a cynical way of exploiting very desperate young bands who think they will be discovered here, the sad thing is they wont. So to celebrate being back in England I am going to play a couple of shows in London and play some songs from the new album. I will post the dates as soon as they are finalised but they should be around the end of July start of August. 19/6/8> Just finished a remxi for a crazy Toronto band called Pony Da Look. Its difficult to describe them really , there are four girls all playing cheap synthesizers with and English girl singing lyrics about sorcerers and demons .... very weird! 31/5/8> Working on finalising the cover art with Ian this week and I think we are there! I really like that its a progression from the last record and they will look amazing together. I am beginning to think of these albums as part of a group of three. I can't say Trilogy as that was misused by another band I was in hahah .... Erin has confirmed an appearance at this years NXNE music festival in Toronto. We will be appearing with the Toronto band at The Savannah Rooms on the 14th of June, then I will be heading back to thr UK to start work on a new live show for the Autumn. 11/5/8> Erin opened for Jim White tonight at the Horseshoe in Toronto. It was also her birthday so a fun night. Jim seems to like to talk about as much as sing but he did do my favourite " If Jesus Drove a Motorhome" and he had some nice things to say about Erin 28/4/8>In New York for the weekend to deliver my Master to Kevin at Worlds Fair and play a show with Erin at the Annex. We were walking down the street where Erins gig was and I was " wait my friend Jasons bar is on this street " and thats where we played! Small world. It was torrential rain but everyone that came enjoyed the show. 17/4/8> Mastered my new record today with Guy Davie at his new studio Electric Mastering in west London. Its a cool studio which looks out right onto the Westway, one of the most famous roads into London. We had a few problems with one of the modules and it took a lot longer than I thought but then again it alwasy does ! Again, as usual I made all the gaps way too short and had to have Guy make them longer like he always says but its part of the process. I guess gaps dont really matter as much as they used to but I still think its important. 14/2/8> Getting some help over the last couple of days mixing my album ... thanks to Sophie and Lottie haha 8/2/8> OK TIme to get moving again, seems like the Winter is getting ready, no wait I always think it's over before it is ... Anyway just wanted to update a couple of things. I have submitted my new album to my label Great Society Records in New York and will start planning its release and touring and everything really soon. Its called "Songs From the Silver Box" and features Erin Lang on vocals and Bryan Bonfiglio from Alka has programmed some of the beats. Its a really nice progression form TTIM and I am very very happy with it. Other great news is Erin Lang will be performing live at Canadian Music Week in Toronto on the 8th of March. I will be of course accompanying her on keyboards and we hope to have a nice little band to compliment Erins amazing voice. It has been a Winter not without it's difficulties but the light is at the end of the tunnel. Hope some of you can make it to the show, check her myspace for details 22/11/7> We are all at the mercy of chance and the random chaotic opportunities or dangers that life and nature throw in our way. We do our best to do things as we see to be the best for us and the people and things that surround us and that is the most we can do. There is no greater power or force. I share everything I do in my life with one person, she inspires, drives me and gives me purpose in all things but especially music. For seven years we have worked together and the music I have made has taken on a new life as a result. Erin has been randomly afflicted with a serious illness, she will, we will over come this. We will be back and making more glorious music just as soon as she is better but until then our plans are on hold. I'm sorry to dissapoing anyone but I know you will all understand, Erin isnt just the voice of my music she is its essence.... If you would like to send her a get well email you can use this address > info@erinlang.com 21/8/7> I have been working with Erin Lang for around seven years now and her debut album is finally finished. "You Are Found" is a collection of 10 songs which I have to say I am very proud to have co written and played on. In fact my playing on these songs is the best I have ever done on record and the parts are the most inpspired I have ever written. I am so proud of Erin, of her songs, her playing and her singing, this music has become a part of my life. We are currently looking for a good home for it and hoping for a Spring 08 release. If you haven't heard what we have been up to check out Erins' Myspace 19/7/7> A new project to announce; I often hear things when I'm walking around or even at home and think how cool it would be to record them and keep a record of what things sound like, how life sounds today. I have millions of photos and I take video but never watch it so the only way to capture these sounds would be with a portable digital recorder. So I bought one, its an Edirol R-09 and its tiny and sounds amazing. So I have started a project which will be open ended, I have opened a website called www.mylifesoundslikethis.com and I am going to upload sounds whenever I record them. At the moment there are only about 10 clips but that will grow. I alos thought yesterday it would be cool to invite guests to record their everyday lives and post those sounds too. So check it out and keep coming back, hopefully after I have about an hour I will make a cd available in the meantime feel free to download the sounds and use them any way you can think of.... 27/6/7> New look for the website; well as it hasnt stopped raining in England for the past two weeks I thought I had better cheer things up a bit ! Hope you like it, it's a work in progress so keep checking back. 24/6/7> Im about 85% done my next album and it's going very well. I have worked with a couple of new people and theres going to be 3 different singers on it. I'm not sure where I am going to mix it, hopefully with Mario in Germany but we will see. I put a picture of my studio and where I am working on the studio page 22/5/7> Spent the weekend at the ATP festival in Somerset. We went mainly to see Martin and The Notwist but decided to stay for the weekend thanks to an old friend "Filthy" getting us tickets. Saw some very cool bands and some tragically bad ones but the stand out was a Japanese band called Cornelius. I watched them standing with lot of very respected musicians and eveyrone of them stood and watched with their mouths open , totally blown away. Check them out on itunes 24/4/7> We are back in Germany right now mixing Erins record with the old team Mario and Ron. Its really nice to be back and it will be great to finally have Erins record finished. 23/4/7> So who wants a Roger ringtone ? Of course you all want one dont you ? and its free. I was asked to contribute to a site called toneshare.com where all the ringtones are free and by very cool artists so go check it out here 24/3/7> Last summer when we were finishing Erin's record in Weilheim with Mario he whipped out this incredible Drum sampler programme called BFD by Fxpansion. Its a collection of different drum kits recorded in different studios with the best mics and the best engineers and put together in a very friendly interface. The main thing is it sounds exactly like real drums, its almost impossible to tell and even better than real drums you can just turn them off ! I did a little interview with them and its up on their site, you can read it here .Take some time and listen to the samples on the website and you will see what I mean, theres also a demo version you cand download and play around with.... 21/3/7> Thanks
to everyone who came to the show last night in London. Special thanks
to Robin Lingwood at Apple for pulling it all together and making it
probably the best one of these we have done. I really enjoyed playing
live again, we re arranged Treasure as part of my " never play a song
the same twice" regime! You can hear it here
12/3/7> I just confirmed with Apple that I will be doing one of my Apple Store appearances next Tuesday 20th of March in London at the Regents Street store. I will be playing the title track from my album and then disecting it in Logic , showing how it is contructed and how I wrote it. I will then write a song live using he same techniques. Erin will also be demonstrating how she made the video for Treasure using Final Cut and digital stop frame animation. We will then perform Treasure. Then I will take questions from the audience on any subject hah.... more details here 11/3/7> I have added an images page where I will put links to full size versions of the images throughout the site so you you can look at bigger versions or download images if you want, its here 10/3/7> Let's try again, looks like Spring today and here it is the new web site. Its not as new and exciting as it might have been. I decided to be even more simple than I might but this is just a start and it will grow from here. Not much new but if you explore the knobs on the Voyager on the opening page they might take you somewhere interesting! 2/3/7> I
was fooled into thinking it was Spring yesterday, started charging
the batteries in my cars, started Anyway so I am going back to being straightforward and doing things the way I feel they should be done. My album "The
Truth in Me" will be released in Japan on a label called Hostess on
the 31st of March I have just finished
the last of the recent remixes I was asked to do and I'm really happy
with the way they The Rosebuds - You'd
Better Run
